Similar to the HP ProBook x360 we mentioned earlier, the Lenovo ThinkPad 11e is more like a standard laptop that just so happens to be a bit rugged. Read our full Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme review Best rugged 2-in-1 laptop Overall, this is a highly robust and powerful system, but the outlay for a fully specified model might put off some customers. We’re also not fans of the rubber plug method of protecting ports, as over time, these tend to get broken, lost, or just fail to stop contamination. The best aspects of this machine are a remarkably bright display that is visible in bright sunlight, an excellent 12th-generation processor, LDDR5 RAM and user upgradable storage.Ĭonversely, the way the keyboard attaches and detaches is clumsy, the RAM isn’t upgradable, and the storage uses the 2230 M.2 form factor limiting drive capacity to 2TB. ![]() However, the single battery only runs the machine for a little over 5 hours, so you will need at least two or more, to get through a working day. ![]() The stock machine comes with one battery, but it has space for an additional one, and these are relatively inexpensive as laptop batteries go. To get the whole laptop experience, you must add an optional keyboard, and it will also need other optional items added before it is truly ready for deployment. Drop-tested to 4ft (1.2m), it can handle temperatures up to 63C and is an IP-65-rated tablet that protects the ports against ingress from dust and water. Read our full Dell Latitude 5430 Rugged Laptop review Best rugged laptop for brightnessĭell makes a number of highly rugged laptops, and the 7230 is one of the latest that uses a modern Intel platform. Although the Latitude 5430 has a 53.5 Whr battery, you can add an additional battery for extra power and hot-swap batteries for extended usage. While the base model is more powerful enough for most tasks, Dell allows you to fully configure this rugged laptop with more RAM, storage, additional ports, and even Nvidia T500 discrete graphics to handle more demanding workloads.Ī privacy shutter prevents third parties from spying through your webcam, while an optional security package adds a fingerprint reader, a Smartcard reader, and a contactless Smartcard reader. Unlike other rugged laptops, which are less subtle due to their use of aluminum, this device is all black with a carbon fiber lid.Ī rigid handle makes the Latitude 5430 easy to carry, and the device sports several certifications, including Mil-Spec 810H and IP53. I've taken to remove everything I can from the startup to speed up boot and disable any un-needed services and I just shutdown between moves now.The Latitude 5430 is a semi-rugged laptop with a sleek design that can be outfitted with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. The last time I used undock, I had my presentation all setup, undocked the computer (did not close the lid, just to be sure that didn't mess it up) went into a presentation and my computer locked up and we waited 10 minutes for it to restart after a hard shut down. That said personally, I never use hibernate, suspend or undock anymore. I suspect you are already using the right command though :) If you want to un-dock, use the un-dock command, don't suspend or hibernate the computer or when it wakes up it will go, HUH? where's my stuff. I'm on Levono now and have the same issues. I had a couple of Dell's, undocking was un-reliable and usually I ended up needing to reboot to get it working again. I'm going to say it's a windows quirk, but not go into detail because I gave up on it. Ideally the Undock command should do that. If you’ve ran across software that has had this side-effect feel free to drop name, and explanation of its design flaw as well.įor the USB drives I suspect that may have to do with if the drive is stopped properly or not. If your going to post that it’s a window malfunction please go into detail, I’m interesting in knowing the discrete OS design flaw. ![]() Has anybody ever had these problems and taken the time to track down what exactly the culprit is? Windows? Some third party Software? Hardware? The thumb drives and mouse are USB, so perhaps there is a connection? Unfortunately, when docking and undocking we frequently loose functionality of our mouse, dual monitor output, and USB thumb drives. Our company requires that we run a broad catalog software that starts at boot but logically I would not think that any program should cause problems when docking or undocking.īasically the problem is that we all have to move around multiple times a day.īut, our office area is easier to code at so we’ll all head here to use our dual monitors when we are coding. Many of my co-workers and myself have a constant problem with docking and undocking our dell notebooks.
